How to play

Three steps to find every country

Read the country

The bar at the bottom names a country to find, for example "Find Japan". The camera flies to the region you are playing.

Tap it on the map

Pinch, drag and zoom to get there, then tap the country. A correct tap fills it orange, a wrong tap flashes red.

Beat your best

Fast, first-try answers and streaks score the most. Three misses reveals the answer. Finish the round for your score.

World or one region

Play the whole world, or master one continent

Pick a region in the game and the map flies straight to it, asking only for countries there. It is the easiest way to learn one part of the world before taking on the full map.

How scoring works

Speed and streaks win the round

Every country you find adds to your score, and the game rewards knowing the map cold.

First try counts most

A clean first tap earns full points. Each wrong tap on a country lowers what it is worth, and a country you miss three times scores nothing.

Speed bonus

Answer quickly and you bank a speed bonus on top. Hesitate and the bonus fades, so the better you know the map, the more you score.

Streak bonus

String together first-try finds and your streak multiplier climbs, with a little celebration each time you hit a new milestone.

Learn the map

The best way to learn the countries of the world

Most people can name far more countries than they can place on a map. The World Map Game closes that gap. By giving you a country and asking you to tap it, it trains the part of geography that pure name quizzes miss: where each place actually sits, and which countries it sits between. A few rounds and the shape of each continent starts to feel familiar.

The trick is to play one region at a time. Start with the continent you know best, learn its borders, then move outward. Europe is a dense puzzle of small neighbours, Africa rewards learning the coastline first, and Asia is easiest if you anchor on the giants like China, India and Russia and fill in around them. Each region flies the camera in close, so smaller countries are easy to tap.

When you can find every country, try the rest of the collection. Worldle tests whether you can name a country from its outline, the Countries of the World Quiz tests recall of all 195 names, and Globle and Travle turn borders and distances into daily puzzles. Once you have the map down, mark everywhere you have actually been on the Visited Countries Map and capture the trips themselves in the TripMemo app.

How it compares

World Map Game vs other geography games

World Map Game (this game)

You are given a country and tap where it is on the map. Tests location, like a Seterra map quiz.

Worldle, Guess the Country

You see a country silhouette and name it. Tests shape recognition, not location.

Countries of the World Quiz

You type country names from memory. Tests recall of all 195 names.

Globle and Travle

Daily puzzles built on distance and borders. Everyone gets the same challenge each day.

FAQ

World Map Game, answered

What is the World Map Game?
The World Map Game is a free online geography game where you are asked to find a country and you tap it on an interactive world map. It is a click-the-country map quiz: the faster and more accurately you locate each country, the higher you score. You can play the whole world or focus on Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas or Oceania, in a quick 12-country round or a full marathon of every country in the region.
How do you play the world map quiz?
A country name appears at the bottom of the screen, for example "Find France". You then tap France on the map. A correct tap fills the country orange and moves you on; a wrong tap flashes red. You get three tries per country before the answer is revealed. Pinch, drag and zoom the map to find smaller countries. Your score rewards fast, first-try answers and streaks.
Is this a Seterra alternative?
Yes. If you like Seterra-style "place the country on the map" quizzes, the World Map Game is a free alternative with no sign up. Like Seterra it teaches you where every country is by having you click it on the map, with World, Europe, Asia, Africa, Americas and Oceania modes. It adds a polished, mobile-first design, scoring, streaks and a best-score record so you can track your progress.
Is the World Map Game free?
Yes, completely free with no signup, no account and no ads. Play as many rounds as you like across every region. It is one of a whole set of free geography games made by TripMemo.
Can I play the map game on my phone?
Yes. The World Map Game is built mobile-first and feels like a native app: one-finger drag to pan, pinch to zoom, and a single tap to answer. It works just as well on a phone or tablet as on a desktop, so you can learn the countries of the world anywhere.
How is the score calculated?
You earn points for every country you find. A clean first-try tap scores the most, with a speed bonus for answering quickly and a streak bonus for consecutive first-try finds. Every wrong tap on a country lowers the points for that one, and a country you fail to find after three tries scores nothing. Your best score for each region and mode is saved on your device.
What is the difference between this and the Countries of the World Quiz?
In the Countries of the World Quiz you type the names of as many countries as you can from memory. In the World Map Game you are given the name and have to find that country on the map by tapping it. One tests recall of country names, the other tests where countries actually are. They pair well: learn the names in one, learn the locations in the other.
Which regions can I play?
You can play the whole World, or zoom into Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, or Oceania. Picking a region flies the camera to that part of the map and only asks for countries there, which is a great way to master one continent at a time before taking on the full world map.
Why do some very small countries not appear?
A handful of micro-states and tiny island nations are too small to tap reliably on a world map, so the game only ever asks for countries that have a clearly tappable shape. This keeps every prompt fair. If you want the complete list of nations, the Visited Countries Map and Countries of the World Quiz cover all 195.
Does the World Map Game help you learn geography?
Yes. Repeatedly locating countries on the map is one of the most effective ways to build a mental map of the world, which is why teachers and students use map games like this. The instant feedback, the camera that flies to each region, and the reveal after three misses all reinforce where each country sits relative to its neighbours.
Is there a daily challenge?
The World Map Game is an unlimited score-attack game you can replay endlessly to beat your best. If you prefer a once-a-day puzzle, try the daily geography games from TripMemo such as Travle, Globle and Flagle, which give everyone the same challenge each day.
