A practical way to learn African countries
Africa has 54 countries spread across a continent that runs from the Mediterranean coast to the Cape of Good Hope. A map quiz teaches the spatial knowledge a list of names never can. Rather than only knowing that Zambia exists, you learn that it sits south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, north of Zimbabwe and beside Angola, Tanzania and Mozambique.
Start with large, recognisable anchors. Egypt sits in the northeast corner beside the Red Sea, South Africa occupies the southern tip, and Nigeria fills much of the western bulge. Algeria is the vast country across the northwest Sahara, while Madagascar is the unmistakable island off the southeast coast. Once those anchors are secure, fill in the Sahel, the Horn of Africa, and the densely packed countries of Central and West Africa.
Quick Round is designed for frequent, low-pressure practice. It selects 12 playable countries and rewards quick recognition. Marathon mode asks for every country represented by a clearly tappable shape in the map. Very small states are not used as prompts when their shapes would be too small for a fair touch target, especially on a phone.
This is deliberately different from the Countries of the World Quiz, where the challenge is recalling names. It is also different from the Visited Countries Map, which tracks where you have travelled. Here, the challenge is simple and focused: find the named country in the correct place.
Country names and continental groupings come from TripMemo's maintained geography dataset. The playable list is intersected with the countries available as tappable paths in the map, preventing the game from asking for an impossible target. Gameplay and content last reviewed June 2026.
