The right pick depends on whether you want pure escape (Maldives, Bora Bora), Mediterranean glamour (Santorini, Amalfi), or a story-led adventure (Iceland, Petra, Patagonia). Most couples honeymoon for 7 to 14 nights. Long-haul destinations like the Maldives, Bora Bora, Galápagos or Patagonia generally need at least 10 nights to justify the flight. Closer picks (Santorini, Amalfi Coast) work brilliantly as 5- to 7-night trips. Build in at least one rest day after the wedding before you board the plane.
Cappadocia, Bali in low season, Kyoto outside cherry-blossom season, and Patagonia EcoCamps offer the highest 'wow per dollar' on this list. The Maldives and Bora Bora are wonderful but expensive; Cappadocia and Bali give you a once-in-a-lifetime feel for a fraction of the cost.
May to June and September to October are the universal sweet spots. Most destinations are in shoulder season (good weather, fewer crowds, lower prices). The Maldives and Bora Bora peak November to April. Iceland is best September to March if you want the aurora. Avoid school-holiday weeks unless you specifically want family-friendly resorts.
Santorini, the Amalfi Coast, Bora Bora and Kyoto consistently top 'most romantic' lists for the obvious reasons: sunsets, food, scenery, intimacy. If your idea of romantic is more rugged, Iceland under the aurora, Patagonia in summer, and Petra by candlelight are unbeatable.
Pick what you'll actually want on day five. If you'll be exhausted from the wedding and want to do nothing, choose the Maldives, Bora Bora, Bali or the Amalfi Coast. If you'll be wired and want a story to tell, choose Iceland, Patagonia, Petra or Machu Picchu. The worst honeymoon is the one that doesn't match your energy.

Europe is best honeymooned in May to June or September, when the weather is warm and the crowds thin.
The Maldives, Bora Bora and Bali are the canonical tropical honeymoons. The Maldives wins on water clarity and overwater villas, Bora Bora on the lagoon and Mount Otemanu, Bali on value and variety. If you've done those: Fiji, the Seychelles, the British Virgin Islands, and St Lucia all deliver the same blue-water magic with fewer planeloads.
For couples who'd rather hike than sunbathe: Patagonia for granite peaks, Iceland for the aurora, Petra and Wadi Rum for the desert and stars, Machu Picchu for the Inca Trail, and Milford Sound for fjords. Banff and the Canadian Rockies are the easiest adventure honeymoon to book if you're new to it.
Cappadocia (Turkey), Bali in low season, Vietnam, Portugal's Algarve, and Greece outside July and August are the strongest 'wow per dollar' honeymoons. A balloon ride over Göreme, a cliffside hotel in Oia in May, or a week of villa life in Ubud all cost a fraction of an overwater villa and still earn the photos.
Pick what fits your post-wedding energy. If you'll be drained, a single resort (Maldives, Bora Bora, Bali, an Amalfi Coast hotel) is the right call. If you'll be wired, a two-stop honeymoon works beautifully: Tokyo plus Kyoto, Paris plus the South of France, Santorini plus Mykonos, or Buenos Aires plus Patagonia. Two stops, not five.
