In short
- Your trips, photos and notes are private by default. Only people you invite, or people you send a share link to, can see them.
- We never sell your personal data and we never use your photos or notes to train AI models.
- When you save a post from another app, we read the public page once from your phone, keep a caption and preview image, and map the places. We never download or store the video.
- AI features send the text you provide, and a small number of images where needed, to OpenAI to generate plans and extract places. Under OpenAI's API terms that data is not used to train their models.
- You can export your data and delete your account from Settings in the app. Deletion completes within 30 days.

01Who we are
TripMemo is operated by TripMemo LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16738352 (“TripMemo”, “we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
You can reach us about anything in this policy at support@tripmemo.app.
02Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address, display name, username and the identifiers we receive from Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. TripMemo does not store a password.
- Profile. Your name, handle, profile photo, age, home location and travel preferences you choose to add.
- Travel content. Trips, TripBooks, photos, videos, captions, notes, day entries, stickers, reactions and the dates and places attached to them.
- Location data. Precise location from your photos’ metadata or from your device when you choose to tag a memory, use the map, or let TripMemo detect where a photo was taken. You control the photo library and location permissions in iOS Settings.
- Links you save from other apps. When you use the iOS share sheet to send a post or web page to TripMemo, we receive the link and any text shared with it. See Saving from other apps.
- Plan and AI inputs. Destinations, dates, interests and other text you type when you ask TripMemo to build an itinerary or organise a trip.
- Bookmarks and bucket list. Places and destinations you save in Explore, Plan and on the map.
- Support messages. Anything you send us when you contact support.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Screens viewed, features used, taps and events inside the app, and how you arrived at TripMemo (for example an ad or a link).
- Device data. Device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, IP address and app-instance identifiers.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports, performance measurements and error logs.
- Purchase data. Your subscription status, product, renewal dates and transaction identifiers from the App Store. Apple processes the payment itself; we never see your card details.
- Advertising identifier. Only if you allow tracking in the iOS prompt. If you decline, we do not access it.
Information from other people
If a friend invites you to a trip, adds you to a shared TripBook, or shares a TripBook link with you, we receive the information needed to show you that trip, such as their name and the trip’s title.
What we do not collect
- We do not read your clipboard. Links reach TripMemo only when you share them or paste them yourself.
- We never ask for, receive or store your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or other social media passwords or account access.
- We do not collect contacts, messages, health data or the contents of your photo library beyond the photos you add to TripMemo.
03How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide TripMemo: store and sync your trips, render your TripBooks, show maps and statistics, run collaboration, and deliver widgets and notifications you turn on.
- Generate AI features you request, such as itineraries and place extraction from links you save.
- Keep your account secure, prevent abuse and fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Process subscriptions and free trials and confirm what you are entitled to.
- Understand how TripMemo is used, fix bugs, measure performance and improve the product.
- Measure our marketing, including which campaigns lead to installs and subscriptions.
- Send you service messages, such as trip invitations, trial reminders and important changes. You can turn marketing and engagement notifications off in the app.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
04Legal bases for processing
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following bases:
- Performance of a contract. Providing the app, sync, collaboration, subscriptions and support.
- Consent. Precise location, photo library access, push notifications, the iOS tracking permission, and optional analytics cookies on our website. You can withdraw consent at any time in iOS Settings, in the app, or through the cookie banner.
- Legitimate interests. Product analytics, crash diagnostics, marketing measurement, security and fraud prevention, and improving TripMemo. We balance these interests against your rights and you can object at any time.
- Legal obligation. Tax, accounting and responding to lawful requests.
05AI features
TripMemo uses artificial intelligence for Plan (itineraries and trip organisation), Explore recommendations, and for reading the links you save to find the places mentioned.
- What is sent. The text you type, the caption and page text of a link you save, and where needed one or two images you shared, so the model can identify a place. We do not send your whole photo library, your account details, or your other trips.
- Who processes it. Our AI processor is OpenAI, through its API. Under OpenAI’s API terms, data sent through the API is not used to train OpenAI’s models. We may add or change AI providers and will update this policy when we do.
- Accuracy. AI output can be wrong. Place matches, opening hours, prices and travel suggestions are suggestions, not advice. Check before you rely on them.
- Retention. AI inputs and outputs that become part of your trip or bookmarks are stored with that content. Transient processing data is deleted within 30 days.
06Saving from other apps
You can share an Instagram post, TikTok, YouTube video or web page to TripMemo from the iOS share sheet. TripMemo turns it into a bookmark with the places it mentions. Here is exactly what happens.
- One fetch, from your phone. TripMemo reads the public page for the link once, from your device, the same way a link preview in Messages works. It reads the caption, title, author handle, a preview image and any place tags. It does not log in to the platform and does not use your account.
- No video is downloaded or stored. TripMemo never extracts, downloads, caches or re-hosts video from Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. When you play a video inside TripMemo it is shown through the platform’s own official embedded player, subject to that platform’s terms and privacy policy. Those players may set the platform’s own cookies inside the app.
- What we keep. The link, the caption and page text, a reduced-size preview image, the extracted places and your notes. Caption text and the preview image are kept for up to 30 days. The link, places and your notes stay until you delete the bookmark.
- Deletion. Deleting a bookmark removes its link, text, preview image and places. Deleting your account removes all of them.
- Not affiliated. TripMemo is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Meta, Instagram, TikTok, ByteDance, Google or YouTube.
08Widgets, notifications and on-device data
- Home-screen widgets. To display widgets, TripMemo stores a small copy of the relevant trip photos, countdowns, stats and phrasebook entries in a shared storage area on your device that only TripMemo and its widgets can read. Nothing from widgets is sent to us.
- Offline data. TripMemo keeps a local copy of your trips so the app works without a connection. It syncs when you are online.
- Notifications. If you enable push notifications we use your device token to send trip, collaboration, subscription and reminder messages. You choose which categories in the app and can turn them off in iOS Settings.
- Camera and filters. Photos you take in the TripMemo camera and any filters you apply are processed on your device.
11International transfers
TripMemo LTD is based in the United Kingdom. Our providers store and process data in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EEA we rely on adequacy decisions or the International Data Transfer Agreement and Standard Contractual Clauses, together with additional safeguards where needed.
12Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, encryption at rest with our storage providers, row-level access controls so accounts can only read their own trips, signed and expiring media links, and restricted staff access. No service can promise absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
13How long we keep data
- Account and trips. For as long as your account is active.
- After you delete your account. Personal data is deleted within 30 days. Limited records may be kept longer where tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or legal obligations require it.
- Individual items you delete. Removed immediately from the app; a backup copy may remain for up to 30 days.
- Saved links. Caption text and preview image up to 30 days; link, places and notes until you delete the bookmark.
- Share links. Until you turn the link off or delete the trip.
- Analytics and diagnostics. Up to 24 months in identifiable form, then aggregated or deleted.
- Support emails. Up to 24 months after the conversation ends.
14Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can:
- Export your data from Settings in the app.
- Delete your account from Settings, or following the steps on our account deletion page.
- Correct your profile at any time in the app.
- Control permissions for location, photos, notifications and tracking in iOS Settings.
If you are in the UK or EEA you also have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or to your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident you have the right to know, delete and correct your personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any right.
To exercise a right that is not available in the app, email support@tripmemo.app from the address on your account. We respond within one month.
15Children
TripMemo is not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age for consenting to online services where you live, which is 16 in some countries. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
16Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change. For significant changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
