A practical way to learn Asian countries

Asia is the largest continent, stretching from the Mediterranean coast of the Levant to the Pacific shores of Japan, and from the Arctic edge of Siberia to the islands of Indonesia. A map quiz teaches the spatial knowledge a list of names never can. Rather than only knowing that Kazakhstan exists, you learn that it sits south of Russia, north of the Central Asian states and west of China.

Start with large, recognisable anchors. India forms the unmistakable subcontinent, China dominates the centre and east, and Saudi Arabia fills most of the Arabian Peninsula. Japan and the Korean Peninsula sit off the Pacific coast, while the long arc of Southeast Asia runs from Myanmar down to Indonesia. Once those anchors are secure, fill in Central Asia, the Caucasus and the smaller states of the Gulf and Southeast Asia.

Quick Round is designed for frequent, low-pressure practice. It selects 12 playable countries and rewards quick recognition. Marathon mode asks for every country represented by a clearly tappable shape in the map. Very small states are not used as prompts when their shapes would be too small for a fair touch target, especially on a phone.

This is deliberately different from the Countries of the World Quiz, where the challenge is recalling names. It is also different from the Visited Countries Map, which tracks where you have travelled. Here, the challenge is simple and focused: find the named country in the correct place.

Country names and continental groupings come from TripMemo's maintained geography dataset. The playable list is intersected with the countries available as tappable paths in the map, preventing the game from asking for an impossible target. Gameplay and content last reviewed June 2026.

FAQ

Asia Map Game questions

What is the Asia Map Game?

The Asia Map Game is a free interactive geography quiz. The game names an Asian country and you tap its location on the map. Correct first-try answers, quick responses and streaks earn the most points.

How do you play the Asia map quiz?

Choose a quick 12-country round or the full marathon. Read the country shown in the prompt, then tap it on the map of Asia. You have three attempts before the correct country is revealed.

Is the Asia Map Game free?

Yes. It is free to play, requires no account and can be replayed as often as you like. Both Quick Round and Marathon mode are available without signing up.

Is there an unlimited Asia map quiz mode?

Yes. The Asia Map Game is unlimited: you can replay Quick Round or Marathon mode as many times as you like. Each new round reshuffles the playable Asian countries, and your best score is saved on your device.

Does the quiz include every Asian country?

The marathon uses every Asian country that has a clearly tappable shape in the interactive SVG map. A few very small states cannot be presented fairly at this map scale, so they are not used as prompts.

Can I play the Asia map game on mobile?

Yes. The game is designed mobile-first with large controls, one-finger panning, pinch zoom, safe-area spacing and a full-screen play mode.

Is this different from the Visited Countries Map?

Yes. This page is a geography game that tests where countries are located. The Visited Countries Map is a travel tracker where you mark countries you have personally visited.

Is this different from the Countries of the World Quiz?

Yes. The Countries of the World Quiz asks you to recall and enter country names. The Asia Map Game gives you the name and tests whether you can find its location.

How is my Asia map quiz score calculated?

Each correct country earns points. First-try answers receive the full base score, fast answers can earn a speed bonus, and consecutive first-try answers build a streak bonus.

Is this a Seterra Asia alternative?

It offers the same useful click-the-country learning mechanic in a free, mobile-first format, with quick and marathon rounds, scoring, streaks and saved personal bests.

What is the best way to learn the countries of Asia?

Practise in short rounds, anchor yourself with large countries like India, China and Saudi Arabia, then work outward into Central, Southeast and West Asia. Replay missed regions until their positions become automatic.
