How to learn African capitals

Use strong pairs such as Egypt–Cairo, Kenya–Nairobi and Senegal–Dakar as anchors. Then focus on commonly confused answers: Brazzaville and Kinshasa face each other across the Congo River, while Porto-Novo and Yamoussoukro differ from their countries’ largest cities.

Use Quick 10 until familiar answers become automatic, then switch to the complete regional set. When you miss a capital, connect it to the country’s position, neighbouring countries and one memorable sound or image. Those extra associations make the city easier to retrieve than repeating an isolated pair.

Coverage and answer policy: the quiz draws from TripMemo’s reviewed country–capital dataset with documented aliases for accented spellings, official-language names and common legacy answers. Regional membership follows the dataset’s consistent six-continent model. Content last reviewed .

When this region feels automatic, move up to the world Capital City Quiz or practise physical location in the Africa Map Game.

FAQ

Africa capitals questions

How many Africa capitals are in this quiz?

The complete mode contains all 54 country–capital pairs assigned to Africa in the TripMemo capital dataset. Quick 10 draws a new random set of ten each round.

Do spelling mistakes count as wrong?

The smart matcher normalises accents and punctuation, recognises documented aliases and tolerates close spellings. Clearly different city names still count as incorrect.

Can I practise the complete region?

Yes. Choose All 54 to work through the entire African capital set, or Quick 10 for a shorter drill.

Is this separate from the world capitals quiz?

Yes. This page is intentionally scoped to Africa, while the world Capital City Quiz mixes countries from all six inhabited continents.
