Make a photo book of your Japan trip
- 9 illustrated covers drawn for Japan
- 3 places on the covers
- Hardcover, softcover or layflat, in three sizes
- Made on the web or in the app, printed when you order
Japan is a trip people save up for and plan for months, and every day of it produces a pile of photos. Neon in Shinjuku at midnight, a silent temple garden the next morning, a bento on the bullet train, a vending machine you could not resist. After two weeks the camera roll is overwhelming. A book is how it becomes a story again.
The covers draw on things you will have photographed yourself: vermilion torii, koi ponds, a bowl of whisked matcha, a pagoda, sakura in full bloom. Most are titled Tokyo, Kyoto has its own, and the Japan designs suit a trip that went further.

Where in Japan?
The cities, coasts and corners the Japan covers are drawn for. Pick the place your trip was about, or keep the whole country on the front.

Tokyo
5 covers
Most Japan trips begin and end in Tokyo, so it often fills half the book. The scramble crossing at Shibuya, the lanterns of Senso-ji in Asakusa, the view from a tower at dusk, the side streets of Shimokitazawa and a day trip to see Mount Fuji, if the clouds allowed it.
Its covers lean into the city's calmer side: a torii with drifting petals, a blossom branch, a koi, a pagoda and a painted fan.

Kyoto
Koi pond
Kyoto is a slower chapter. The orange gates of Fushimi Inari climbing the hill, the bamboo grove at Arashiyama, the Golden Pavilion reflected in its pond, the lantern-lit lanes of Gion at night. Its cover draws three koi circling in a pond, a nod to the gardens you will have walked through. Many visitors add a day in Nara among the bowing deer, and those pages sit happily in the Kyoto chapter.
Make it yours
Japan trips tend to be long and full, so start by letting the studio put everything back in time order and drop the duplicates. Day pages are worth keeping on: on a rail pass itinerary, each one marks a new city, from Tokyo to Hakone to Kyoto to Osaka. Use captions for the names of tiny restaurants and shrines you would never find again, and a note or two for the moments a photo cannot hold, like the hush of a temple at dawn.
Cherry blossom photos and city lights both look striking in print. If you took a lot of each, a hardcover with room for more pages is the comfortable choice.

Hardcover, softcover or layflat

Japan photo book questions
Which cover suits a cherry blossom trip?
Tokyo has a cherry blossom branch and a fan painted with sakura, and the torii cover has petals drifting past. For a spring trip beyond Tokyo, the Japan cherry blossom cover suits the whole country.
Can I put Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in one book?
Yes. A typical Japan itinerary fits in one book. Day pages open each day so the move from city to city stays clear, and the cover can say Japan or the city you choose.
Is there a cover for Osaka, Hiroshima or Hokkaido?
There is no cover named for them, but you can retitle any design. The torii at sunset, the matcha bowl and the Japan cherry blossom all work with a different place on the front.
My trip was two weeks long. Will everything fit?
Hardcover and softcover books hold up to a few hundred pages and up to four photos a page, so long trips fit comfortably. Layflat holds fewer pages but opens completely flat.
Can I make my Japan photo book on my phone?
Yes. Make it on the web here or in the TripMemo app on iPhone, which sorts your trip photos by day and place.
Can I use my own photo of Mount Fuji on the cover?
Yes. The drawn designs are one option; photo styles such as Image and Poster take a picture of your own instead, so Fuji, a shrine or a street at night can be the cover.
