When in Rome
Trastevere, Rome
Got lost trying to find a "famous" restaurant, ended up at a tiny trattoria with no menu. The nonna running the kitchen sent out whatever she felt like making. Cacio e pepe that tasted like the platonic ideal. A carafe of house wine that kept refilling itself. We were the only tourists. Three hours disappeared. When the bill came, it was handwritten on a napkin. This is what I came to Italy for.

- “Cacio e pepe the way it's supposed to be.”
- “The carafe that never empties.”
Colosseum Dawn
Colosseum, Rome
Set an alarm for 5:30am. Worth every lost minute of sleep. The Colosseum at sunrise with almost no one there. I could hear the city waking up—distant church bells, the first scooters buzzing through the streets. I sat on the steps across the street and just looked. Two thousand years of history, still standing, glowing gold in the morning light. Some places are famous for a reason.

- “First light on the Colosseum. Alarm at 5:30am was worth it.”
- “Nearly empty. This never happens after 7am.”
