Our pick
Why TripMemo, when Polarsteps is the obvious choice
The Polarsteps Travel Book is generated from your tracked trip with almost no work. TripMemo asks a few more minutes of you, and gives you more choice in return.
Any trip, tracked or not. Make the book on the web from the photos already on your phone or computer. A Polarsteps Travel Book can only be generated from a trip kept in Polarsteps.
A cover for where you went. 707 illustrated covers, each drawn for a country, city or US state. A Polarsteps cover is a photo from your trip, with a choice of 12 colours.
Portrait, landscape or square. A5 and A4 portrait books for phone photos, A5 and A4 landscape, and a 21 cm square. Polarsteps prints one landscape size, 29.7 × 21 cm, the same as our A4 landscape.
A price before you start. £28.49 for an A5 hardcover of 24 pages, and £6.50 tracked delivery in the UK. Polarsteps shows its price at checkout, once your book is generated.
Built from your trip, too. Kept your trip in the TripMemo iPhone app? It turns each day into pages with your notes, adds the route you recorded on a satellite map, a page of trip stats and a QR code back to the trip.
For a trip you tracked from start to finish in Polarsteps, its book is hard to beat on effort. These are the cases where it, or another maker, is the better pick.
PolarstepsBest for trips tracked in PolarstepsChoose Polarsteps if you tracked the whole trip in Polarsteps and want the book made for you, with your route and each step's weather, altitude and distance, up to 400 pages, with delivery in the price.
JourniBest for AI drafts on AndroidChoose Journi if you want an AI-drafted book with maps on an Android phone, or more than 298 pages (it goes to 349).
PopsaBest for a quick book on your phoneChoose Popsa if you want a book made on your phone in a few minutes, or a big 30 cm square book.
PhotoboxBest for the lowest price and the most sizesChoose Photobox if the lowest price for a small hardcover matters most, or you want a size we don't make, from 10 × 10 cm up to 39 × 29 cm.

Polarsteps Travel Book or TripMemo: six things to know
What Polarsteps' own help centre says about its book, and what each point means for the book you want.
1
The book needs a Polarsteps trip
Polarsteps generates the Travel Book from a trip in its app with at least five photos and published steps. If you didn't track the trip, or only tracked part of it, start a TripMemo book on the web from your photos instead.
2
One trip per book
Polarsteps can’t combine trips in one Travel Book at the moment. A TripMemo book takes photos from as many trips as you like, with your own title on the cover and spine: see the year in review photo book.
3
One shape, landscape
Every Travel Book is 29.7 × 21 cm landscape. Most phone photos are portrait, so an A5 (14.8 × 21 cm) or A4 (21 × 29.7 cm) portrait TripMemo book lets them fill the page; our A4 landscape is the same size as Polarsteps'.
4
Long trips: the page count
Polarsteps goes to 400 pages, more than our 298, though its paper drops from 200gsm to 150gsm above 298 pages. For a longer trip, make two TripMemo books, each on 200gsm gloss.
5
The price comes last
Polarsteps shows the price at checkout, after the book is generated. TripMemo's prices are on every page: £28.49 for an A5 hardcover, £41.99 for a square layflat, with delivery shown before you pay.
6
Keep your Polarsteps trip
Nothing stops you using both. Keep tracking with Polarsteps, then make a TripMemo book from the same photos with a cover drawn for the place. For the apps themselves, see our Polarsteps app comparison.
Start with the cover, then add the photos from your trip.
A cover drawn for the place, not just a photo
A Polarsteps Travel Book takes your trip's cover photo and title. Ours can do that too, or wear one of 707 illustrated covers for countries, cities and US states.
Four photo cover styles take your best shot of the trip: Image runs it edge to edge, Editorial sets it beside your title, and Arch and Good days frame it in their own way. Every style prints your title on the spine.
Polarsteps builds the book from your tracked steps. TripMemo works either way: in any browser from the photos you have, or in the TripMemo iPhone app from the trip you kept, route included.

The Polarsteps Travel Book, and the other alternatives
A fair look at the Polarsteps Travel Book, and at the other makers people compare it with.
Polarsteps Travel Book: what it does well
Its great strength is that it makes itself. Choose a trip you tracked in Polarsteps and its book is ready in minutes: your photos and step text laid out in order, your route plotted on a map, and the weather, altitude and distances of each step added for you. You can then move or remove photos, change the cover photo and title, pick one of 12 colours and switch whole sections off.
There are two styles, both 29.7 × 21 cm landscape hardcovers with a semi-matte finish. Premium goes to 400 pages, on 200gsm paper up to 298 pages and 150gsm above that. Lay-Flat Premium opens flat on thicker paper, up to 120 pages. Polarsteps prints locally where it can, and delivery is included in the price: it says to allow 3 to 5 business days to make the book, then 3 to 5 to ship it to the UK, the EU, the US, Canada or Australia, and up to 10 elsewhere.
The limits follow from that strength. There is no book without a Polarsteps trip, one trip per book, one landscape size, and no published price until checkout. For the Polarsteps app against the TripMemo app (journals, tracking and sharing), see our Polarsteps app comparison.
Choose Polarsteps if you tracked the whole trip in Polarsteps and want one landscape book of it, up to 400 pages.
Journi
Journi drafts a book with AI from the photos you choose, adding maps and dates, on iPhone, Android or the web, without tracking the trip first. Its books go to 349 pages, from £27.99 for a 21 × 15 cm hardcover of 25. See our Journi comparison.
Choose Journi if you want an AI-drafted book with maps on an Android phone, or more than 298 pages (it goes to 349).
Popsa
Popsa lays out the photos you pick in a few minutes, in landscape and square books of up to 150 pages, from £38. See our Popsa comparison.
Choose Popsa if you want a book made on your phone in a few minutes, or a big 30 cm square book.
Photobox
Photobox has the most sizes and the lowest price for a small hardcover, £25.99 for 24 pages, but you choose and add every photo yourself. See our Photobox comparison.
Choose Photobox if the lowest price for a small hardcover matters most, or you want a size we don't make, from 10 × 10 cm up to 39 × 29 cm.
How we compared
We make TripMemo, so we have an interest: read this page with that in mind. To keep it fair, every figure for another maker comes from that maker’s own website or help centre, read on the day shown, and every TripMemo figure comes from our studio and our live prices. Prices are list prices before delivery and before any sale running that day. Most of these makers run frequent promotions, so check the price on the day you order.
We judged the books on what matters for a trip: a cover that says where you went, how much of the trip fits, how the book is made from your photos, paper and binding, and the price of a comparable book. We recheck every figure at least every 90 days. Spotted something out of date? Email support@tripmemo.app and we will correct it.
Literally my favorite thing I've bought in a while. Turned out so clean and looks amazing on my shelf.

Polarsteps Travel Book questions
How much is a Polarsteps Travel Book?
Polarsteps doesn't publish a price list. Its help centre says the price depends on the binding, the page range and the number of copies, and is shown at checkout, in your currency, with local taxes and worldwide delivery included. A yearly Polarsteps Plus subscription takes 20% off. A TripMemo A5 hardcover of 24 pages is £28.49, plus £6.50 delivery in the UK.
What size is a Polarsteps Travel Book?
29.7 cm wide and 21 cm high (11.7 × 8.3 in), landscape, the size of a sheet of A4 on its side. It is the only size. TripMemo prints that size too, as an A4 landscape, and also A5 landscape, A5 and A4 portrait, and a 21 cm square.
How many pages can a Polarsteps Travel Book have?
Up to 400 in the Premium style and 120 in Lay-Flat Premium. Premium pages are 200gsm up to 298 pages and 150gsm from 299 to 400. TripMemo hardcovers and softcovers go to 298 pages and layflat books to 120.
What paper is a Polarsteps Travel Book printed on?
Semi-matte paper inside a semi-matte hardcover. Premium books use 200gsm paper (150gsm above 298 pages), and Lay-Flat Premium a thicker paper. TripMemo hardcovers are printed on 200gsm gloss photo paper and layflat books on 190gsm lustre.
How long does a Polarsteps Travel Book take to arrive?
Polarsteps says about 3 to 5 business days to make the book, then about 3 to 5 to ship it to the UK, the EU, the US, Canada or Australia, and up to 10 to the rest of the world, a little longer in its busy seasons. TripMemo books usually reach UK addresses in 5 to 8 working days.
Can I make a Polarsteps Travel Book without tracking my trip?
No. The Travel Book is generated from a Polarsteps trip with at least five photos and published steps, and one book holds one trip. TripMemo makes a book on the web from any photos, tracked or not.
Is TripMemo the same as the Polarsteps app?
Both are travel apps that print books, but this page is about the printed book. For the TripMemo app against the Polarsteps app (journals, route tracking, sharing), see our Polarsteps app comparison at tripmemo.app/polarsteps-alternative.
Do I need the TripMemo app to make a photo book?
No. You can make the whole book here on the web, in any browser, and order it there. The iPhone app is the other way in: if you kept your trip in TripMemo, it builds the book from your days, notes and route for you.
