If your photo book is of a trip, TripMemo is the alternative to Photobox we would choose: a cover drawn for where you went (524 of them), up to 298 pages against Photobox's 160, and books the iPhone app builds from your trip. Photobox still costs less for a small book and makes more sizes; here is the full comparison.

Our pick
Why TripMemo, for a book of your trip
Photobox makes books for everything, from weddings to calendars. TripMemo makes one thing: the book of a trip. That focus shows in five places.
A cover for where you went. 524 illustrated covers, each drawn for a country, city or US state. Photobox gives you a travel template; we give you Lisbon's sardines or London's phone box.
Nearly twice the pages. Up to 298 pages in a hardcover, against Photobox's 160, and up to 298 in a softcover, against its 60.
Gloss as standard. Our hardcover pages are 200gsm gloss at no extra cost. Photobox's standard finish is satin, and gloss costs from 8p a page.
Built from your trip. The TripMemo iPhone app turns your trip into pages day by day, with your notes, the route you recorded and a QR code back to the trip.
A proof before you pay. See every page as it will print and download a PDF proof before you order.
Photobox is a good printer, and for some books it is the better choice. So are the other alternatives, in their own cases.

Switching from Photobox to TripMemo
If you have made a Photobox book before, most of TripMemo will feel familiar. Here is what carries over, and what changes.
1
Start from the place
Instead of choosing a theme, choose the cover drawn for where you went: 524 of them, for countries, cities and US states. Your title and year go on the front and the spine.
2
Sizes carry across
Photobox's medium portrait (15 × 20 cm) is close to our A5 (14.8 × 21 cm), its large portrait (21 × 28 cm) to our A4 (21 × 29.7 cm), and its large square is the same 21 × 21 cm as ours.
3
The pages lay themselves out
Add your photos and the studio places them for you, one to four to a page. Swap a layout, move a photo or add a caption on any page.
4
Room for the whole trip
Up to 298 pages in a hardcover and 298 in a softcover, where Photobox stops at 160 and 60. Long trips fit in one book.
5
Check it, then order
See every page as it will print and download a PDF proof. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay; UK delivery is £6.50, and books usually arrive in 5 to 8 working days.
6
Your photos, wherever they are
Upload from your phone or computer. Or let the TripMemo iPhone app find the trips already in your camera roll and turn each one into a TripBook, ready to print.
Photobox's travel book starts from a theme. Ours starts from where you went: 524 illustrated covers for countries, cities and US states, each with your title and year.
Five photo cover styles take your best shot of the trip: Image runs it edge to edge, Editorial sets it beside your title, and Poster, Arch and Good days frame it in their own way. Every style prints your title on the spine.
Make it on the web, as with Photobox, or from your trip
Like Photobox, the TripMemo studio works in any browser, on a computer or a phone. Unlike it, the TripMemo iPhone app can build the whole book from the trip you kept.
Every page, as it will print
On the web
Made in minutes, in any browser
Pick one of 524 destination covers, or put your own photo on the front
Add your photos and the studio lays them out, one to four to a page
Move, resize and caption anything, and see every page as it will print
Download a PDF proof, then pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Klarna

Photobox and the other alternatives
A fair look at Photobox, and at the other makers people compare it with.
Photobox: what it does well
Photobox is a big UK photo printer with a wide range: books from 10 × 10 cm up to 39 × 29 cm, softcovers, hardcovers, window covers and layflat. Its medium portrait hardcover (15 × 20 cm) is £25.99 for 24 pages, against £28.49 for a TripMemo A5 hardcover (14.8 × 21 cm, 24 pages), and its delivery starts at £4.99 against our £6.50.
Its layflat books are strong too: 270gsm pages on large and XL books, up to 160 pages, from £47.79 for a 21 × 21 cm square. You can make a Photobox book on the web, in its iPhone and Android apps or in a desktop app.
For a trip, the gaps are the cover (a travel theme, not your destination), the page limit (160, or 60 for a softcover) and the work: you choose and place every photo yourself, with no map of your route.
Choose Photobox if the lowest price for a small hardcover matters most, or you want a size we don't make, from 10 × 10 cm up to 39 × 29 cm.
Popsa
The fastest of the alternatives: Popsa’s app lays out the photos you pick in a few minutes. Its books are landscape or square, from £38 for a 20 × 15 cm hardcover of 20 pages, up to 150 pages. See our Popsa comparison.
Choose Popsa if you want a book made on your phone in a few minutes, or a big 30 cm square book.
Mixbook
Mixbook suits people who like to design every page, with a large library of themes and books of up to 399 pages. In its UK store a glossy 8.5 × 8.5 in hardcover is £24.99 for 20 pages. See our Mixbook comparison.
Choose Mixbook if your book needs more than 298 pages (it goes to 399), or you want to design every page from a big library of themes.
Journi
Journi is a travel journal app that prints, like TripMemo: its AI drafts a book with maps and dates, on iPhone, Android or the web, up to 349 pages. Its covers are themes rather than artwork for a place, and its standard pages are 170gsm matte.
Choose Journi if you want an AI-drafted book with maps on an Android phone, or more than 298 pages (it goes to 349).
How we compared
We make TripMemo, so we have an interest: read this page with that in mind. To keep it fair, every figure for another maker comes from that maker’s own website or help centre, read on the day shown, and every TripMemo figure comes from our studio and our live prices. Prices are list prices before delivery and before any sale running that day. Most of these makers run frequent promotions, so check the price on the day you order.
We judged the books on what matters for a trip: a cover that says where you went, how much of the trip fits, how the book is made from your photos, paper and binding, and the price of a comparable book. We recheck every figure at least every 90 days. Spotted something out of date? Email support@tripmemo.app and we will correct it.
