Who softcover is for

Softcover is the lightest and lowest-priced of the three books. It suits trips you want in print without the weight of a hardback.

  • Weekends and city breaks

20 pages is enough for a long weekend in Paris or a few days in Lisbon. A softcover makes a short trip feel finished, without waiting for a big one.

  • A book for every trip

Slim (about 7 mm across the spine at 100 pages) and light, softcover books stack neatly and slip into a bag, so making one for every trip of the year stays simple.

  • Something to pass around

A flexible cover that bends open like a magazine makes it easy to leaf through at the table: the kind of book that gets handed round after dinner.

Want the book to stand up on a shelf for years? A hardcover has a hard cover and a thicker spine. Shooting wide panoramas? Layflat pages open completely flat. Hardcover photo books · Layflat photo books

The softcover up close

A flexible cover, a slim spine and pages that bend open like a magazine's: real printed pages, and the softcover on a sunlit desk.

The Italy scooter cover as a softcover, on an oak desk.
  • Softcover travel photo book lying open on a pale studio table, with Venice and Amalfi Coast photos across its pages
Open, the pages bend into the spine like a magazine's.
  • Open softcover photo book with wedding photos of a couple across both pages, its flexible cover bending back
A flexible cover that bends back as you read.

Softcover photo book questions

Why is it called Magazine in the studio?

Softcover and Magazine are the same book. The studio and the app call it Magazine because it is light, flexible and opens like one; softcover is the name most people search for.

How thin is a softcover photo book?

About 2 mm across the spine at 20 pages, 7 mm at 100 and 19 mm at the full 298. For comparison, a 100-page hardcover is about 13 mm.

How much does a softcover photo book cost?

It starts at £26.49 for a Compact 14.8 × 21 cm book with 20 pages, before delivery. More pages and the larger sizes cost more, and delivery is priced for your address at checkout.

Which sizes does softcover come in?

The same three as hardcover: Classic (21 × 29.7 cm), Compact (14.8 × 21 cm) and Square (21 × 21 cm). Every illustrated cover prints on all three.

What paper is a softcover printed on?

150gsm gloss photo paper: lighter than the hardcover's 200gsm gloss, which keeps the book slim and easy to bend open. Photos keep the same glossy finish as in a hardcover.

How few pages can a softcover have?

As few as 20, against 24 for a hardcover, so a weekend away makes a complete book. It goes up to 298, so a long trip fits too.

Can I put a photo on a softcover's cover?

Yes. Every cover style works on a softcover: Image, Editorial, Illustrated, Poster, Arch and Good days. Image puts a favourite photo edge to edge; Illustrated uses artwork drawn for your destination instead.

Can I see my book before I order?

Yes. The studio shows every page as it will print, and you can download a design proof before you pay.

How is delivery priced?

Every book is printed to order and sent tracked. Delivery is priced for your address at checkout, so you see the full cost before you pay.

Do you ship outside the UK?

Yes, we ship worldwide. Delivery is priced for your address at checkout, and every order is sent tracked.
