Make a photo book of your Morocco trip
- 5 illustrated covers drawn for Morocco
- 2 places on the covers
- Hardcover, softcover or layflat, in three sizes
- Made on the web or in the app, printed when you order
Morocco is a trip of colour, and the camera roll shows it. Spice cones and slippers stacked in the souks, the smoke rising from the food stalls on Jemaa el-Fna, a riad courtyard with orange trees and a fountain, then the Atlas, the gorges and the orange dunes of the Sahara at sunrise. A book is how all of that becomes a journey again, in the order you travelled it.
The covers draw on things you will have seen in every medina. Marrakech has the Koutoubia minaret and two hanging lanterns, one in navy and saffron, one in gold. Morocco has its own lantern in cobalt and a pair of yellow babouches, for a trip that went well beyond the Red City.

Where in Morocco?

Marrakech
3 covers
Marrakech is where most trips begin. The square at Jemaa el-Fna filling with food stalls at dusk, the maze of the souks, the tiled courtyards of the Bahia Palace, the cobalt blue walls of the Jardin Majorelle and a rooftop terrace looking across to the Koutoubia as the call to prayer starts.
It has three covers of its own: the Koutoubia minaret, and two pierced lanterns, one navy on red, one gold on orange.

The High Atlas and Aït Benhaddou
The road south from Marrakech climbs over the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Aït Benhaddou, the earthen ksar that has been a backdrop for many films. Others head for Imlil and the trails below Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. There is no cover named for the mountains; the Morocco lantern carries these pages well.

The gorges and the Sahara
Beyond the Atlas come the Dades and Todra gorges, then the great dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga: a camel ride at sunset, a night in a desert camp under a sky full of stars, and the dunes turning from orange to pink at dawn. The Morocco covers, or one of your own photos of the dunes, suit this chapter.

Fes
Fes el-Bali is the old walled medina at its most intense: the blue-tiled Bab Bou Jeloud gate, donkeys in lanes too narrow for cars, the Bou Inania Madrasa and the dye pits of the Chouara tannery seen from a leather shop terrace. Retitle the babouches cover Fes and it suits the city of craftsmen exactly.

Chefchaouen
In the Rif mountains, Chefchaouen is the town washed in every shade of blue, with painted doorways, potted plants on the steps and a walk up to the Spanish Mosque on the hill at sunset. The babouches cover, blue ground and all, fits it well.

Essaouira
On the Atlantic, Essaouira is a windy fishing port with blue boats in the harbour, gulls over the sea walls of the Skala and grilled fish at the port. It is an easy trip from Marrakech, and its pages sit happily at the end of a Marrakech book.
Morocco photo book ideas
Many first trips to Morocco start in Marrakech, cross the High Atlas to the Sahara and finish in Fes, with Chefchaouen or the Atlantic coast if there is time. Here is how to turn that loop into chapters.
Build it chapter by chapter
Follow the route you took and let each stop be its own chapter. Turn on day pages and every day opens with a page you can title, so the book reads in the order you lived it.
Marrakech
Jemaa el-Fna from a café terrace as the food stalls light up, the Koutoubia minaret against the evening sky, the blue walls and cactus of the Jardin Majorelle, and the zellige and carved cedar of the Bahia Palace.

Over the Atlas
The switchbacks of the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the earthen walls of Aït Benhaddou from across the riverbed, and a mint tea poured from a height at a roadside stop.
The gorges
The red cliffs closing in at the narrowest point of the Todra Gorge and the winding road up the Dades valley.
The Sahara
Your camel train's shadows on the dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset, the camp lit up at night, and the first light on the sand at dawn.
Fes
Bab Bou Jeloud's blue tiles, the dye pits of the Chouara tannery from above, the courtyard of the Bou Inania Madrasa, and the view over the medina from the Merenid Tombs at dusk.
Chefchaouen
Blue stairways and doorways in the old town early in the morning, and the whole blue town from the Spanish Mosque at sunset.
Essaouira
The blue fishing boats in the harbour, the cannons along the Skala ramparts, and the beach in the wind.

Make it yours
Morocco tours often cover a lot of ground in a few days, from Marrakech over the mountains to the desert and on to Fes. Switch on the route map so the book opens with that loop, and let day pages mark each new stop. Use captions for the names of riads, the guide who led you through the medina, and the dish you still think about, and a longer note for the night in the desert.
Zellige tiles, carved plaster and the colours of the souks are made for print. Give a few of them a full page, and keep the busy days of medina photos to three or four a page.
Hardcover, softcover or layflat
The same Morocco cover on all three books. Choose the one that suits your trip.

Morocco photo book questions
Can I put Marrakech, the desert and Fes in one book?
Yes. A whole Morocco tour fits in one book, with a day page opening each day so the drive from city to mountains to desert stays clear. The Morocco lantern or babouches suit a trip that covered the country; a Marrakech cover suits a trip based there.
Is there a cover for Fes, Chefchaouen or the Sahara?
There is no cover named for them yet, but any design can be retitled. The babouches on sky blue suit Fes or Chefchaouen well, and the Morocco lantern works for a desert trip. You can also put your own photo of the dunes on the front with a photo cover style.
Which Marrakech cover should I choose?
The Koutoubia minaret is the city's landmark and suits a trip centred on the medina. The navy lantern on red feels like an evening in a riad, and the gold lantern on orange is the warmest of the three.
Is there a best time of year for a Morocco trip?
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for touring, with mild days in the cities and the desert. Summer is very hot inland, and in winter the Atlas can have snow and nights in the Sahara are cold. Whenever you went, the seasons show in the photos, which is part of the story.
I only went to Marrakech for a few days. Is that enough for a book?
Often, yes. A long weekend of souks, gardens, a riad and perhaps a day trip to the Atlas or Essaouira fills a compact softcover or a square book well.
Can I make my Morocco photo book on my phone?
Yes. Make it on the web here or in the TripMemo app on iPhone, which sorts your trip photos by day and place.
How much does a Morocco photo book cost?
A Morocco photo book starts at £26.49 for a softcover, £28.49 for a hardcover and £41.99 for a layflat, before delivery. The price grows with the pages you add, and you see the exact total, with delivery to your address, before you pay. UK orders usually arrive in 5 to 8 working days, and we ship worldwide.
How many photos do I need for a Morocco photo book?
A short break usually gives 60 to 120 photos worth printing, which fill 24 to 40 pages. A week gives 150 to 250 photos for 40 to 80 pages, and two weeks or more 250 to 400 photos for 80 to 150 pages. Your photos are laid out for you, two to a page by default, and you can change it to one to four.
