Make a photo book of your California trip
- 9 illustrated covers drawn for California
- 4 places on the covers
- Hardcover, softcover or layflat, in three sizes
- Made on the web or in the app, printed when you order
California trips rarely stay in one place. A typical one lands in Los Angeles or San Francisco, follows the coast for a few days, then cuts inland to the desert. These covers are drawn for each part of that: the Golden Gate Bridge in red, beach palms against a low sun, a surfboard and a curling wave, a Joshua tree at dusk, the state's orange poppy, and two cities with covers of their own, San Diego and Palm Springs.
Choose the cover that fits, add the photos from your own vacation and print the result as a hardcover, a softcover or a layflat. The book is designed by you, in the TripMemo print studio on the web or in the TripMemo app on iPhone, so it holds exactly the trip you took.

Where in California?
The cities, coasts and corners the California covers are drawn for. Pick the place your trip was about, or keep the whole country on the front.

San Francisco
The bridge is the first thing most people photograph in San Francisco, and one California cover is simply that: the Golden Gate's red towers and cables in close-up. It fits a city trip of cable cars, Alcatraz and sourdough, or the start of a drive south down Highway 1 through Big Sur.

Los Angeles and the coast
There is no Los Angeles cover by name, but the beach palms, the surfboard and the pink palms designs were made for exactly this stretch of coast: Santa Monica pier, Venice boardwalk, Malibu and the beaches on the way to Laguna. If you would rather the title said Los Angeles, change it on any California cover.

San Diego
Palms
San Diego's cover is two tall palms on lavender, the kind that line the streets near Pacific Beach and Coronado. It suits a family vacation built around the zoo, the beaches and the harbour, or the last stop of a coast drive before the border.

Palm Springs and the desert
Coupe cocktail
Palm Springs is a pool, a cocktail and a lot of mid-century architecture, and its cover keeps to the cocktail: a grapefruit coupe on pink. For trips that head out to Joshua Tree National Park, about an hour away, the Joshua tree cover shows the park's namesake trees against desert mountains at sunset.
California photo book ideas
Most California trips from the UK are a fly-drive of two or three weeks: San Francisco and Yosemite, the coast road south through Big Sur, then Los Angeles, San Diego and the desert, often with Las Vegas on the end. Here is how to give each stretch of the drive its own chapter, with a drawn cover for the stops that have one.
Build it chapter by chapter
Follow the route you took and let each stop be its own chapter. Turn on day pages and every day opens with a page you can title, so the book reads in the order you lived it.
San Francisco
The Golden Gate from Battery Spencer or Baker Beach as the fog lifts, cable cars climbing Hyde Street with Alcatraz behind, the Painted Ladies at Alamo Square, and clam chowder in a sourdough bowl on the waterfront.
Yosemite
El Capitan and Half Dome from Tunnel View, Yosemite Falls at full flow in spring, and the valley turning gold from Glacier Point at sunset.
Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur
Sea otters in the kelp at Monterey, Carmel's fairytale cottages, Bixby Bridge from the pull-out on its north side, McWay Falls dropping onto the sand, and elephant seals on the beach near San Simeon.
Los Angeles and Malibu
The Hollywood sign from Griffith Observatory, the Ferris wheel on Santa Monica Pier at sunset, the Venice boardwalk and canals, and the sea stacks of Malibu's beaches.
San Diego
Sea lions on the rocks at La Jolla Cove, the red roofs of the Hotel del Coronado, the gardens and tiled domes of Balboa Park, and fish tacos by the beach.

Palm Springs and Joshua Tree
Wind turbines lining the drive in, mid-century houses and turquoise pools, then Joshua trees and giant boulders at sunset and the Cholla Cactus Garden glowing at golden hour.

Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon
The Strip lit up after dark, then sunrise over the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the canyon walls turning from purple to red.
The little things
The landmarks take care of themselves. These are the photos you’ll be glad you took.
- Fog rolling over the bridge
- A diner breakfast with endless coffee
- The hire car on an empty road
- Highway 1 road signs
- Sea lions hauled out on a pier
- Fish tacos on the beach

Make it yours
A California road trip is the kind of vacation that suits a route map. Switch it on and the first page of the book draws a map of where you went, from the first city to the last motel. Day pages mark each day, so the drive from San Francisco to Carmel and the day in Yosemite each get their own start, and you choose how many photos go on a page, from one big view to a grid of four.
Caption the places that need a name (the beach with the sea lions, the diner with the pie) and keep longer notes for the days that deserve more. On the cover, the title and year can be changed, which matters when the book covers a whole West Coast loop or a family wedding in Napa. Prefer a photo of your own on the front? Every book can have one.
Hardcover, softcover or layflat

California photo book questions
Is there a Golden Gate Bridge photo book cover?
Yes. One California cover shows the Golden Gate Bridge in close-up, its red towers and cables on a pale blue background.
Do you have a Los Angeles cover?
Not by name. The California beach palms, surfboard and pink palms covers all suit a Los Angeles trip, and you can change the title on any of them to Los Angeles.
Can I make one photo book of a whole California road trip?
Yes. One book can follow the whole route, with a map of where you went on the first page and a day page before each day of the drive.
Is there a cover for Joshua Tree or Palm Springs?
Both. Palm Springs has its own cover with a grapefruit cocktail in a coupe glass, and a California cover shows a Joshua tree in front of desert mountains at sunset.
Why is there a USA cover on the California page?
The red convertible under a palm is titled USA, for trips that cross several states and finish in California. It is shown here because it fits that kind of road trip, not because it is a California design.
Can my book include Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon too?
Yes. Many California fly-drives finish in Nevada and Arizona, and one book can hold the whole loop, with day pages marking each stop and a route map at the front. Keep a California cover and change the title, choose the USA convertible cover, or put your own Grand Canyon photo on the front.
Can I make my California photo book in the app?
Yes. Make it in the TripMemo app on iPhone, which sorts your vacation photos by day and place, or on the web in the print studio.
How much does a California photo book cost?
A California photo book starts at £26.49 for a softcover, £28.49 for a hardcover and £41.99 for a layflat, before delivery. The price grows with the pages you add, and you see the exact total, with delivery to your address, before you pay. UK orders usually arrive in 5 to 8 working days, and we ship worldwide.
How many photos do I need for a California photo book?
A short break usually gives 60 to 120 photos worth printing, which fill 24 to 40 pages. A week gives 150 to 250 photos for 40 to 80 pages, and two weeks or more 250 to 400 photos for 80 to 150 pages. Your photos are laid out for you, two to a page by default, and you can change it to one to four.
