Make a photo book of your Portugal trip
- 6 illustrated covers drawn for Portugal
- 3 places on the covers
- Hardcover, softcover or layflat, in three sizes
- Made on the web or in the app, printed when you order
Portugal is a country of steep streets and long views. A few days in Lisbon is all hills: a tram grinding up to a miradouro, the river opening out below, a pastel de nata still warm from the oven. Then the trip changes pace, north to the port lodges of Porto or south to the cliffs and coves of the Algarve, and the camera roll fills with tiles, terracotta roofs and sea.
The covers draw on things you will have photographed yourself. Lisbon has its yellow tram and three sardines painted like azulejo tiles, the city's unofficial emblem. The Algarve has a golden sea arch with bougainvillea, and a blue and white tiled sardine on white covers the whole country, from the Douro to the south coast.

Where in Portugal?
The cities, coasts and corners the Portugal covers are drawn for. Pick the place your trip was about, or keep the whole country on the front.

Lisbon
4 covers
Lisbon is the trip's first chapter for most people. Tram 28 through Graça and Alfama, the view from the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte at sunset, a fado night in a tiny Alfama restaurant, and a morning in Belém for the Jerónimos Monastery, the Tower of Belém and a box of custard tarts.
It has most of the covers: the yellow tram, and three different sardines painted in tile patterns, on deep blue, turquoise and pale sky blue.

Sintra and Cascais
A day out of Lisbon by train. Sintra gives you the red and yellow Pena Palace above the trees, the spiral well at Quinta da Regaleira and the walls of the Moorish Castle along the ridge. Cascais is the beach town at the end of the coast line, and Cabo da Roca, mainland Europe's westernmost point, sits between the two. There is no cover named for them, but these pages sit happily in a Lisbon book.

Porto and the Douro Valley
Porto is the Ribeira waterfront stacked up the hill, the double-decker Dom Luís I bridge, the blue tiled hall of São Bento station and a tasting in the port lodges across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. Many add a day in the Douro Valley, where the vineyards step down to the river. The Portugal sardine, or any cover retitled Porto, suits a book that starts or ends here.

Algarve
Arch & bougainvillea
The Algarve is the south coast's golden cliffs: the sea stacks and grottoes of Ponta da Piedade near Lagos, the Benagil sea cave from a boat, the clifftop path above Praia da Marinha, and whitewashed old towns like Tavira. Its cover draws a sea arch over turquoise water with bougainvillea in front.
Portugal photo book ideas
A first trip to Portugal usually runs along the coast: Lisbon with a day in Sintra, the train north to Porto and the Douro, or south to the Algarve for the beaches. Here is how to turn that into chapters, with a drawn cover for Lisbon and the south.
Build it chapter by chapter
Follow the route you took and let each stop be its own chapter. Turn on day pages and every day opens with a page you can title, so the book reads in the order you lived it.
Lisbon
Tram 28 squeezing past the houses in Alfama, the rooftops and the river from the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, the Rua Augusta Arch onto Praça do Comércio, and the cloisters of the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém.

Sintra and the coast
Pena Palace in its reds and yellows above the forest, the spiral staircase down the Initiation Well at Quinta da Regaleira, and the cliffs and lighthouse at Cabo da Roca.
Óbidos and Nazaré
The walk along Óbidos's town walls, ginjinha served in a chocolate cup, and in winter the giant waves breaking below the lighthouse fort at Nazaré.
Porto
The Ribeira from the top deck of the Dom Luís I bridge, the azulejo panels inside São Bento station, rabelo boats moored at Gaia, and a francesinha at lunch.
The Douro Valley
Terraced vineyards falling to the river around Pinhão, a quinta's tasting room, and the view from a river boat or the train along the water.
The Algarve
Ponta da Piedade's rock arches from the clifftop steps or a boat, the Benagil cave from the water, the Seven Hanging Valleys trail above Praia da Marinha, and the end of the world at Cabo de São Vicente near Sagres.

Make it yours
Portugal trips often split in two, city and coast, so let day pages mark the change: the morning you left Lisbon for Porto, or the first day on the beach in Lagos. Captions are worth it for the names of the tascas and pastelarias you will want to find again, and for the miradouro where you watched the sunset. Put the route map at the front and the line from Porto to the Algarve tells the story before a single photo.
Tiles, painted doors and terracotta rooftops look good in print, so give a few of them a page of their own. If you rename a Lisbon cover, the year sits under the title, which suits a city people go back to.
Hardcover, softcover or layflat
The same Portugal cover on all three books. Choose the one that suits your trip.

Portugal photo book questions
Can I put Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve in one book?
Yes. A whole Portugal itinerary fits in one book, with a day page opening each day so the move from city to coast stays clear. The Portugal sardine cover suits a trip that covered the country, or choose a Lisbon or Algarve cover for the part that mattered most.
Is there a cover for Porto?
Not yet one named for Porto, but you can retitle any design. The Portugal sardine painted in azulejo blue works especially well with Porto on the front, given the city's tiled churches and station.
Which cover suits an Algarve beach holiday?
The Algarve cover draws a golden sea arch over turquoise water with pink bougainvillea, the kind of rock formation you see along the coast around Lagos and Carvoeiro. It reads ALGARVE, and you can change it to the name of your town if you prefer.
Which Lisbon cover should I choose?
The yellow tram is the city's best known picture and suits a classic city break. The three tiled sardines differ in mood: deep blue is the most classic, turquoise with a pink title is the brightest, and the leaping sardine on pale blue is the softest.
Is there a cover for Madeira or the Azores?
There is no cover named for the islands, but any design can be retitled. The tiled sardines and the Algarve arch both carry a Madeira or Azores title well, or use one of the photo cover styles with your own picture of the island.
We did Spain and Portugal on one trip. Can that be one book?
Yes. A trip from Seville to the Algarve, or from Galicia down to Porto, fits in one book with day pages marking where each country begins. Pick the Portugal sardine and change the title to something like Iberia.
Can I make my Portugal photo book on my phone?
Yes. Make it on the web here or in the TripMemo app on iPhone, which sorts your trip photos by day and place.
How much does a Portugal photo book cost?
A Portugal photo book starts at £26.49 for a softcover, £28.49 for a hardcover and £41.99 for a layflat, before delivery. The price grows with the pages you add, and you see the exact total, with delivery to your address, before you pay. UK orders usually arrive in 5 to 8 working days, and we ship worldwide.
How many photos do I need for a Portugal photo book?
A short break usually gives 60 to 120 photos worth printing, which fill 24 to 40 pages. A week gives 150 to 250 photos for 40 to 80 pages, and two weeks or more 250 to 400 photos for 80 to 150 pages. Your photos are laid out for you, two to a page by default, and you can change it to one to four.
