Make a photo book of your New York trip
- 8 illustrated covers drawn for New York
- 2 places on the covers
- Hardcover, softcover or layflat, in three sizes
- Made on the web or in the app, printed when you order
A New York vacation produces a strange camera roll: forty photos of the skyline, one blurry shot of a bagel, the view from the top of somewhere, a lot of crossings. A photo book is where that turns into a story, and these covers are drawn to sit on the front of it.
Every design in this collection reads New York in tall serif capitals with the year beneath. Under the title is one icon of the city: the yellow cab, Lady Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge with Midtown behind it, a martini, a cosmopolitan or the Big Apple itself. Choose the one that sounds most like your trip, fill it with your own photos, and order it as a hardcover, softcover or layflat.

New York City
7 covers
Almost every NYC photo book starts in Manhattan, and the covers follow. The skyline and bridge design is the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset, with the Empire State and Chrysler buildings lined up behind; the taxi is every ride up Fifth Avenue; the Big Apple, with the skyline reflected in its skin, is the nickname made literal.
Several covers are given to the Statue of Liberty, because the ferry out to Liberty Island is the part of a New York trip people photograph most. One shows the whole figure, one stands her on her pedestal, and one comes in close on the torch and crown. The martini and cosmopolitan covers are for the evenings: rooftop bars, jazz in the Village, a Broadway show and a late dinner after it.
Brooklyn, Queens and the rest belong in the book too. A NYC trip that spends a day in Williamsburg or DUMBO still suits any of these titles, since they all say New York.

Beyond the five boroughs
Because the cover title is New York rather than NYC, the same designs work for a trip that leaves the city: a train up the Hudson Valley, a long weekend in the Catskills, summer on Long Island or a drive to Niagara Falls. Change the title if you want it to say something more particular, such as the name of a wedding or the year you moved there.
New York photo book ideas
Most New York trips from the UK are a city break of four to seven nights, often in December or for a big birthday or anniversary, planned neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Here is how to turn those days into a book that reads like the city, one part of town at a time.
Build it chapter by chapter
Follow the route you took and let each stop be its own chapter. Turn on day pages and every day opens with a page you can title, so the book reads in the order you lived it.
Midtown and Times Square
Times Square lit up after dark, the skyline from Top of the Rock with the Empire State in the middle of the frame, the main concourse at Grand Central, and the theatre lights before a Broadway show.

Central Park
Bow Bridge and Bethesda Terrace, the skyline over the pond from Gapstow Bridge, the steps of the Met, and rowing boats in summer or snow on the paths in winter.
Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty
The 9/11 Memorial pools and the white ribs of the Oculus, Lady Liberty from the ferry rail, and the Financial District skyline shrinking behind the Staten Island Ferry.
Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO
The Brooklyn Bridge walk early in the morning, the Manhattan Bridge framed at the end of Washington Street, and the skyline from Brooklyn Bridge Park as the lights come on.
The High Line, Chelsea and the Village
Planting and city views along the High Line, lunch at Chelsea Market, brownstones and fire escapes in Greenwich Village, the cast-iron fronts of SoHo, and a slice eaten standing up.
Christmas in the city
The Rockefeller Center tree above the ice rink, the market stalls and skaters in Bryant Park, the Fifth Avenue windows, and the lit-up houses of Dyker Heights in Brooklyn.
The little things
The landmarks take care of themselves. These are the photos you’ll be glad you took.
- A yellow cab in the rain
- Steam rising from the street
- A bagel and a slice
- The subway sign at your stop
- Your theatre ticket
- Fire escapes on a brownstone
- A hot dog cart on the corner
- The view from your hotel window

Make it yours
City trips are dense, so the inside of a New York book does a lot of the work. Day pages open each day with its date, which helps when Tuesday was the Met and Central Park and Wednesday was the High Line, Chelsea Market and a show. The route map at the front draws a map of where you went, and you can lay out one to four photos per page, with captions for the deli order you want to remember and notes for the bits that did not fit in a photo.
Holiday seasons are a big reason people print a New York book: the tree at Rockefeller Center, the windows on Fifth Avenue, skating in the park. The cover's title and year are yours to change, and if you would rather see your own shot of the skyline on the front, any book can have a photo cover instead.

New York photo book questions
Do you have a Statue of Liberty photo book cover?
Yes, in several versions. One shows the statue in full on peach, one shows her standing on her pedestal on sage teal, and one is a close crop of the crown and torch on cream or navy.
Is there a cover with a yellow New York taxi?
Yes. The taxi cover shows a yellow cab with a checker stripe and roof light on deep navy, with New York in yellow capitals.
Can I make a photo book of a Christmas trip to New York?
Yes. Any of these covers works for a winter trip, and you can set the year on the cover yourself. Add your Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue pictures with captions, and a day page before each day.
My trip was New York and Boston. Can it go in one book?
Yes. A book can hold a whole trip across several cities, with day pages showing when you moved on. Choose a New York cover and change the title, or use one of your own photos on the front.
Can I make my New York photo book on my phone?
Yes. Make it on the web in the print studio, or in the TripMemo app on iPhone, which sorts your vacation photos by day and place.
Can I make a New York photo book for a birthday or anniversary trip?
Yes. Many New York trips mark a milestone, so change the cover title to say whose birthday or which anniversary it was, keep the year beneath, and caption the dinner, the show and the view from the top. The cosmopolitan and martini covers suit a celebration weekend best.
Can I see the book before I order it?
Yes. The studio shows every page as it will print, so you can check each spread before you pay.
How much does a New York photo book cost?
A New York photo book starts at £26.49 for a softcover, £28.49 for a hardcover and £41.99 for a layflat, before delivery. The price grows with the pages you add, and you see the exact total, with delivery to your address, before you pay. UK orders usually arrive in 5 to 8 working days, and we ship worldwide.
How many photos do I need for a New York photo book?
A short break usually gives 60 to 120 photos worth printing, which fill 24 to 40 pages. A week gives 150 to 250 photos for 40 to 80 pages, and two weeks or more 250 to 400 photos for 80 to 150 pages. Your photos are laid out for you, two to a page by default, and you can change it to one to four.
